Getting Ready for A Day at Sea on a Hawaii Fishing Charter

Anytime you have a big adventure planned, there always tends to be a bit of mystery, and great excitement, especially when it comes in a dream destination like Hawaii. When it comes to a fun activity like a Hawaii Deep Sea Fishing Charter, there are a few things that you’ll want to know about in advance. And while knowing exactly what to expect is not ideal, preparing for a day at sea is important, and quite different than a standard land activity that you also might be enjoying while visiting the islands.

When heading out for a day on the ocean, having some advice and information ahead of time will help to make your day perfect, and ensure that you are ready for everything on board your charter.

Battling Sea Sickness
The ocean is a highly unpredictable place and with the constant up and down, rocking, and constant motion, you may get a little queasy. Some have zero issues and never get sea sick, but for most of us, we need to medicate appropriately so that we don't spend out day at sea over the side of the boat. It is highly recommended to take proper doses of motion sickness medicine, and to follow instructions on how to administer the medication. You’ll need to start preparing 24 hours in advance, and be sure to drink plenty of water before hand.

Food and Drinks on Board
Most charters allow pretty much anything on board, but be sure to check with your Captain beforehand. Bringing snacks and meals is important because there is not anything provided, and you will want to bring plenty of water. It is hot at sea, so if alcohol is allowed on board, be sure to take it easy and make sure you’re consuming plenty of food and water.

Sun Protection
Depending on the charter and boat that you reserve, there may not be much reprieve from the sun. While some boats do have an interior that allows you a place to hide, some don't. Play it safe and bring protection from the sun. Sun block, a long sleeved shirt, a hat, sunglasses, and even a light jacket will give you protection and make sure you don't head home with the worst sunburn you’ve ever experienced.

A day at sea will be a ton of fun and your Hawaii Fishing Charter is bound to be an experience that you never forget. Prepare appropriately and your experience will be everything that you want it to be, without any of the consequences of not being prepared.
